Network

Computer Network

Computer network are developed by connecting two or more computers together. The idea of computer network provides a means for sharing hardware and software on the network. For example, although you do not have a particular software on your machine, you can still get it if you are connected to a network on which one computer has that software. In the modern world computer network idea has connected the entire world. The following are some essential concepts to understand network basics.

Node-client/server

Any computer or a device such as a printer connected to a network is known as a node. A node on a computer network involves in three activities. That means, some nodes provide services from other nodes. Such nodes are called servers. In contrast, nodes which request services from other nodes are called clients. Note that printers like nodes on a network always become a server. Your pc connected to the network can be generally be a client most of the time.

IP Address

Every node on a network is uniquely by an address. Such an address is usually known as an IP Address. Normally, an IP address is a number with four fields separated by dots. The maximum value of one filed is 256. for example, 192.21.123.74 is an IP address of a node connected to a network. In general, it is difficult to remember numbers as address. Therefore, IP address have been mapped to address with names. For example, www.edudsd.blodspot.com is an IP address which is easy to comprehend. Note that depending on the service of the node, naming convention con be changed.
